"The Online Quilt" provides an educational and innovative fun space for creative caregivers in Alzheimer's disease and other dementias to interact with other caregivers in dementia who share an interest in creative expression.

Privacy Policy

All website visits are anonymous.  We do not collect any personal information, such as name, address, e-mail address or telephone number, unless you specifically provide this (e.g., required for member registration). 

 

Please remember, however, if you are accessing our website from your workplace that a record of the information transmitted may be retained within the computer or network in your organization.

 

Membership

 

Some of the sections of this web site require registration as a member (“Create”, and “Let’s Talk).  The information collected in the registration process is used only for membership log-in confirmation, and to help us identify future areas of interest to include on the web site. 

 

We never convey any personally identifying information unless you have given us permission (e.g., to display your creative works in the public gallery or home page).  Nor will any personal information that you divulge to us or to any of our registered members be shared outside of the private forum.  All members who register to use the members-only features of The Online Quilt are equally obliged to adhere to these privacy policies with respect to any information they share amongst each other, or their membership privileges will be revoked.

 

E-mails and update notifications

 

We only send you information that you have specifically requested, or to notify you of any important updates to registration and/or log-in procedures that you are registered for.

 

Cookies

 

'Cookies' are bits of information placed on your computer's hard drive that streamline communication between your browser and the web site.  The Online Quilt only uses cookies for convenience so that you do not have to enter the same information each time you visit us (e.g., signing in), or to track which aspects of the web site are visited most frequently.  This information is used to improve the content of our site.

 

Your information is kept secure

 

Members provide us with a login name and password of their own choosing, and no individual retains this information once your account is set up.  If you forget the name and/or password you have created, you will need to contact us to request your encrypted login information to be reset.  We are committed to security procedures that protect any information you submit to us from misuse or unauthorized disclosure. Although we use every effort to safeguard your personal information, like other web sites, we cannot guarantee that every communication is completely secure from people who might attempt to evade security measures or intercept transmissions over the internet.

Editorial and Content Review Policy

 

Quality assurance

 

The Online Quilt makes decisions about the type of information that appears on our site based on the interest of its members. Video and/or text content is based on current research and evidence-based guidelines. Occasionally we provide content or links to outside agencies or trusted health sources (e.g., Alzheimer Society Canada). In these cases, we cannot edit the content but we do review it for relevance to our site.  The public “Gallery” also contains creative works of our registered members, and is for your viewing pleasure only.  These creative works are can be shared by an “anonymous caregiver” or in some cases the person may use their own name or a pseudo name to protect privacy. The choice is theirs.

 

Content is reviewed by health professionals and subject matter experts to ensure it meets generally accepted principles.  In all cases, the information contained on our web site is believed to be credible and is reviewed a minimum of twice yearly.

 

Third party review

 

The guidelines followed in the conduct of our staff adhere to those of the Canadian Psychological Association and the American Psychological Association.
